Over £6700 raised for Alder Hey at Liverpool Sportswoman’s Lunch

Olympic Gymnast and guest of honour Beth Tweddle lent her support to a Sportswoman’s Lunch spearheaded by trainee solicitor Marena Mondair of DTM Legal, raising over £6700 for the law firm’s charity of the year, Alder Hey Children’s Charity.

The event, which took place on 26 September and was over a year and a half in the making, was founded by Marena of DTM and fellow Liverpudlian professionals Natalie Dye (Bathgate Business Finance) and Claire Brookfield (MSIF) to fill the gap for events celebrating local women in sport. As the idea developed, the three founders enlisted the assistance and expertise of Natalie Dickson (Brabners) and Ruth Kirby and Louise Metcalf (Natwest).

30 James Street Hotel hosted the event, attended by more than 130 guests from professional firms and businesses from across Liverpool and Merseyside. Marena said: “Beth was really inspiring and talked personally about her journey of dedication and hard work to success, and celebrated successful women in sport and business.”

Marena really enjoyed the experience of working alongside so many businesses, commenting: “It was great to be part of such a dynamic team of women. We wanted to create an event entirely focused around women in sport to inspire and motivate people.

“The team worked really closely together to make the event such a success and to ensure that we raised as much as possible for such a worthy cause – Alder Hey Children’s Charity, where Beth Tweddle is a patron. It was down to sheer hard work, connections and generosity.”

Andy Heaton of Mercer, who attended the lunch as a guest of DTM, commented: “Great event for a great cause and very well represented by the Liverpool business community.”

Dedicated Marena, who will qualify as a solicitor in March 2019, fitted in organising the sportswoman’s lunch alongside work and study. The Liverpool-based trainee solicitor is currently working in her final placement in the commercial litigation department of DTM Legal, and is due to qualify in March 2019.

Partner Kate Roberts said: “Marena is a great asset to DTM Legal. She throws herself into everything and is exceptionally organised. This event is a testament to her hard work and tenacity.”

Plans are already in the pipeline for a second Liverpool Sportswoman’s Lunch.
