Global animal nutrition leader Alltech has acquired DTM Client, The E-CO2 Project Limited (E-CO2) – which specialises in analysing the carbon output of farms – in order to provide a solution that can help livestock producers simultaneously lower carbon footprint and costs.

Discussing the sale, E-CO2 managing director and co-founder Peter Darlington said Alltech was the perfect partner to take the business forward: “Today’s farmers need their operations to be three things: efficient, profitable and sustainable

“Thanks to this deal, we are now better placed to provide a much-needed service that will help livestock producers all over the world perform optimally in all these areas.”

For more than 17 years – initially through CMS UK Services Ltd – E-CO2 has developed its portfolio of environmental software and services in order to address the issue of greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture and the food chain. Working with businesses ranging from small family farms to larger retailers and processors, it has helped its clients to reduce their carbon footprint in order to lower costs and meet government and corporate sustainability targets.

Dr Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech, added: “Both businesses have long believed that success in agriculture now depends on being able to find ways of working that benefit the animal, consumer and environment.

“It really is possible to find solutions that are win-win all round. Reducing the environmental impact of agriculture normally means simultaneously lowering overheads – something that all businesses want to do. There’s a huge appetite for these kinds of services, and by joining forces, we’ve created a business that can provide just what the market needs.”

Based in Crewe, UK, E-CO2 will now be rebranded as Alltech E-CO2 and will benefit from access to Alltech’s extensive team of scientists, nutritionists and marketing experts, and its global reach in 128 countries.

Head of Corporate at DTM Legal, Ed Barnes, led the team acting for the shareholders of The E-CO2 Project Limited and said: ” This transaction was a complex one in terms of the intellectual property rights involved, but ultimately a very satisfying one to conclude. The unique assessment products of The E-CO2 Project Limited and Alltech’s global presence will provide a fantastic platform to further develop the business.”
