The current record stands at 250 people, who collectively hugged trees for one minute. The Forestry Commission, who manage Delamere Forest in Cheshire, are hoping to see that record broken this Sunday. To comply with the Guinness World Records rules, a solicitor must be on site to authenticate the numbers of people involved, so DTM will be there to make sure the record stands.
The record attempt is part of a Delamere Forest Discovery Day and anyone who wants to cycle or walk in the forest, as well as hug a tree, should note that all car parking is in the Whitefield Car Park and you need to arrive by 1.15pm to register for the record attempt. There is a marquee set up as event HQ by the way.
Little Fact of The Day for you: Tree hugging is believed to have originated in India, when women would wrap themselves around trees to stop them from being chopped down. Since then it has become a symbol of appreciation for trees, woodlands and forests and Delamere is one of Cheshire’s most beautiful and tranquil places for a Sunday stroll, or leisurely bike ride.
You can also get to Delamere via the Chester-Northwich-Manchester railway line, so check with the Trainline for times if you prefer not to drive.
If you support the event then we will see you there and please pass this on by email, Facebook or Twitter if you think a friend might come along too.
