DTM Legal has acted on the successful sale of Food Analytical Laboratories Ltd (FAL) to Intertek Group. FAL was purchased from its management shareholders for a total of £6m as part of a trio of acquisitions by Intertek, one of the UK’s leading safety services providers.
FAL is a food testing laboratory which provides chemical and microbiological services for food producers in the UK. The company employs 73 people from its base in Stoke-on-Trent and will now form part of Intertek’s Industry & Assurance division.
Steve Watt, director of Food Analytical Laboratories Limited, comments “This is a good strategic fit for both businesses. We are delighted to be able to bring our expertise to Intertek and develop our UK-based food testing laboratory to complement their existing food services business”.
Ed Barnes, Partner at DTM Legal, comments: “We are pleased to have helped secure this deal on behalf of FAL shareholders. Despite the tough economic conditions it shows that there are still great opportunities for businesses and that the right deal can be achieved.”
The deal was one of three acquisitions announced by Intertek, totalling £11.5m. The other two purchased businesses were Recherche, Developpement & Consulting, based in Belgium, and Hampshire-headquartered QinetiQ UK Fuel and Lubricants Testing Business.
